Create new Revit Structural elements using the aligned data
Apply some Dynamo scripts for the Civil surfaces
After selecting the positions for the split, a split is created by the Bridge component, which you can see on the right hand side. Before executing the split commands, I’d suggest a little cleanup on the Bridge model. For instance, in this case, the girder alignment is defined in the Bridge model. To ensure the alignment will be still present in the Revit model, I use the Align Me tool. The alignment tool allows alignment of a Revit object to an existing model, which was created in another application or in this case in Civil 3D.
This is a bridge model of a box type bridge built on a bridge girder which is reinforced with a gusset plate. I chose this model as a POC because it demonstrates the capabilities of the bridge component and adaptive components in the Bridge modelling toolkit. In this case the path and alignment of the girder is already defined as part of the bridge model.
After importing, it’s time to start splitting the bridge model. This can be done by right-clicking on the bridge object in the Bridge component and selecting Split Bridge Model. In the dialog that opens, I use the following settings:
As we are modelling a concrete bridge, we need to start by modelling a nice structure. In this case, I wanted to model a real bridge that I have been working on, that is a small box bridge that was in use for 3 weeks. In the end, I took the data from the BIM42 Lab for this scene.
The following workflow is designed for small to medium projects with 3-5 consultants and a total work time of 2-3 weeks. The team should be familiar with Revit Structure and Civil 3D. The team may also have some experience with Dynamo and AutoCAD. The consultants should also be familiar with Bentley Conceptual Design. In my experience, it is best to have a small project team to get workflows in place and to avoid communication issues. I use the workflow here, but it is by no means the only possible workflow. You can always use Revit Structure in a workflow where all consultants are familiar with Civil 3D, Bentley Conceptual Design and Dynamo.
The point of the workflow is to show you a quick way to quickly put up a box model in a project based on a file on a local drive. This is a very powerful workflow and can be used more than once per project for a quick solution. The workflow is fully based on the Civil3D to Revit Structure Bridge Integration for Revit Structure 2015 which was released in October 2016. It’s a step by step workflow, available in the Gallery on the Revit Structure documentation site . 827ec27edc
