The album was reissued in 2000 in Europe in a remastered, expanded and deluxe 2-CD edition that included the four new singles from the album as well as three live tracks from the band's European Tour in 1999. This release was also reissued on vinyl, with a second vinyl release of the album in 2001, featuring another bonus disc of live and alternative versions of the songs.
The album was critically and commercially successful worldwide, selling over 8 million copies in the US alone, with the singles reaching high positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[3] The album is also certified gold by the RIAA with sales of over 500,000 copies in the US.[27]
Head Over Heels is the first album that the group recorded after leaving the studio that had produced their debut. The band soon began recording in the summer of 1998 at the same place where their debut had been recorded, using the same producer, George Drakoulias.
